A child and a grandparent pick fruit — bananas, grapes, and a watermelon — while naming colors and ripeness.

Read together

Child: Can we buy a banana and an orange?

Grandma: Yes. Check the apple for bruises. Grapes should feel firm.

Child: The pear is soft. Is a peach better today?

Grandma: Two peaches. One mango if it smells sweet near the stem.

Child: Watermelon is huge. How do we know it is ready?

Grandma: Tap it — a deep sound is good. Strawberry boxes look fresh too.

Child: Cherry or lemon for the drink?

Grandma: Lemon for water. Cherries as a small treat.

Child: Banana, orange, apple, grapes, peach, mango, watermelon, strawberry, cherry, lemon.

Grandma: Perfect fruit list. Hold the bag carefully on the walk home.
