Why Does Ice Cream Melt?
Heat always flows from warm to cold, so a warm room melts ice cream, not the reverse.

Cold is not a thing that travels.
There is only heat. Something feels cold because heat is leaving you and going into it — never because cold came out.

Heat always flows to the colder thing.
Energy spreads from where there is more to where there is less. A room at 20°C and ice cream at −15°C can only go one way.

Melting takes a surprising amount of energy.
Warming ice by one degree is cheap. Turning it from solid to liquid at the same temperature takes vastly more — that is why it takes a while.

The energy breaks the structure apart.
In ice, molecules are locked in a rigid lattice. Melting means giving them enough energy to break free and slide past each other.

Slowing it means slowing the heat.
A cone in a bowl, out of the sun, in still air melts slower. Insulation and shade do not add cold — they reduce the heat getting in.
Ice cream is partly air whipped in. That is why it scoops instead of setting into a solid block.

Wrap one ice cube in a towel and leave another out. The towel does not add cold — it just slows heat arriving.
