argument: a set of reasons used to support an idea or position; “The author builds an argument for better public transport.”
claim: a statement that says something is true; “The claim needs stronger evidence before it can be accepted.”
contrast: a clear difference between two people, things, or ideas; “The paragraph contrasts short-term and long-term costs.”
emphasize: to give special importance or attention to something; “The conclusion emphasizes the need for further study.”
furthermore: in addition to what has just been said; “The plan is affordable; furthermore, it can start immediately.”
however: used to introduce a statement that contrasts with the previous one; “The sample is small; however, the result is still useful.”
overall: considering everything together; “Overall, the findings support a gradual change.”
perspective: a particular way of thinking about or understanding something; “The article adds a local perspective to the debate.”
propose: to suggest a plan or idea for people to consider; “The researchers propose a simpler way to measure progress.”
whereas: used to compare two facts or situations that are different; “Online sales increased, whereas store visits fell.”
therefore: for that reason; as a result; “The sample was limited; therefore, the conclusion is cautious.”
justify: to give good reasons for an action or decision; “The writer must justify the choice of participants.”
limitation: a weakness or restriction that makes something less effective; “The small sample is an important limitation.”
objective: a result that someone plans to achieve; “The main objective is to reduce unnecessary energy use.”
solution: a way of solving a problem or dealing with a difficult situation; “The proposal offers a practical solution to the shortage.”
support: to provide evidence or reasons that strengthen an idea; “The figures support the writer's main point.”
example: a specific case that helps explain a general idea; “The speaker gives an example from public transport.”
conclude: to decide or state something after considering the evidence; “The report concludes that the changes were worthwhile.”
accurate: correct and free from mistakes; “Use accurate figures when describing the chart.”
summarize: to give the main points in a shorter form; “Please summarize the article in two or three sentences.”
accordingly: in a way that is appropriate to the situation or information given; “The evidence was limited, and the conclusion was worded accordingly.”
assert: to state an opinion or fact confidently; “The author asserts that the change would benefit rural areas.”
conversely: in the opposite way or direction; “Investment rose in the city; conversely, it fell in smaller towns.”
criterion: a standard used to judge or decide something; “Cost was the first criterion used to compare the proposals.”
despite: without being affected by the thing mentioned; “Despite the small sample, the pattern deserves further study.”
examine: to study something carefully in order to understand it; “The essay examines the relationship between work and wellbeing.”
notion: a belief, idea, or understanding about something; “The article challenges the notion that speed is always valuable.”
premise: an idea or statement that supports a conclusion; “The conclusion depends on the premise that demand will remain stable.”
ultimately: finally, after considering everything; “The project ultimately succeeded because the teams shared information.”
notwithstanding: despite a particular fact or condition; “Notwithstanding these concerns, the proposal offers a useful starting point.”
