Sound Pairs · learn words
Hear the difference.
Listen to one word, compare two real words that differ by one sound, and choose what you heard. The meaning of both words comes back after the answer.
The game uses your browser's English voice to speak one word in a sentence. No microphone, audio files, or account is needed.

Which contrast would you like to hear?
Start with vowel length, then notice voice vibration and final consonants. Both buttons are real words; the sound is the clue.
A clear boundary: This game teaches a listening contrast, not a perfect accent. If a pair sounds close in your variety of English, replay it and keep the meanings in view. If speech is unavailable, this game will say so and offer Rhyme Time instead of pretending a silent round is useful.
Paused
The pair will wait while you take a breath.
