Stone Soup: An Adventure in Hunger and Ingenuity

Gather 'round young ones, and listen up close
For a tale of adventure, that I'll now compose
Of a feast and an idea, a soup and some bread
Of hunger and longing, and a path that led

To a stone, old and gray, by the side of the road
Where two children stopped, with a heavy load
For they had journeyed far, with nothing to eat
And their hunger was strong, they longed for a treat

But no feast was in sight, no food to be found
They sat on the stone, feeling down and profound
Until an idea sparked, in the girl's clever mind
"We can make soup!" she exclaimed, and the boy resigned

To helping her gather, some ingredients to mix
A stone for a pot, and some herbs for the fix
They boiled up the soup, and soon it was done
Their hunger was gone, and they had so much fun

For they learned that an idea, can go a long way
And that even with little, you can still have a great day
So if you're ever hungry, and feeling alone
Remember this story, and make a soup of your own.

Reflections

  1. How did the children feel at the beginning of the story when they were hungry and had nothing to eat?
  2. What was the idea that the girl came up with to make soup, and how did they make it?
  3. How did the soup taste, and how did it make the children feel?
  4. What did the children learn from their experience, and how could this lesson apply to other areas of their lives?
  5. If you were in a similar situation as the children, what ingredients would you use to make your own soup, and what might you add to make it even more delicious?
