The Stronger Doughnut

In a bakery, far away,
A doughnut waited every day,
For someone to come along,
And take it where it did belong.

One day, a boy came to the store,
And saw the doughnut, wanted more,
He asked for ten, but what a shame,
There were zero, just the same.

The boy was sad, but not for long,
For the baker sang a happy song,
"Don't worry, friend, I have a plan,
To make a great doughnut, stronger than."

The baker mixed the dough with care,
And made a shape, round and rare,
Then baked it until it was done,
And added frosting, oh so fun.

The boy took one bite and was amazed,
The doughnut was great, and he praised,
"This is the best I've ever had,
It's stronger than any doughnut, that's rad!"

So, kids, remember this sweet tale,
Even when your plans may fail,
Just like the doughnut, you can be,
Stronger than you thought, oh so free!

Reflections

Here are a few questions to ask kids to think about the story:

  1. What did the boy want to buy from the bakery, and how many did he want?
  2. What did the baker do to help the boy when he found out there were no doughnuts left?
  3. How did the baker make the doughnut stronger?
  4. What did the boy think of the doughnut after he tried it?
  5. What is the lesson that the boy learned from the story?
  6. Have you ever had to deal with disappointment? How did you handle it?
  7. How can you be stronger, even when things don't go the way you want them to?
