The Many Clocks of Time

Once upon a time, in a land far away,
There were many clocks that kept time all day,
Some were old, some were new,
Some were big, and some were small too.

There was a shadow clock, so clever and neat,
It used sunlight to measure the beat,
The sun would move across the sky,
And the shadow would tell the time that passed by.

There was a water clock, with water so clear,
It flowed down through tubes year after year,
As the water flowed, the time it would show,
Ticking away with a gentle glow.

There was a digital clock, with numbers so bright,
It beeped and chirped, all through the night,
It showed the time in a flash so quick,
With buttons to press, and numbers to flick.

There was a candle clock, with a flame so bright,
It flickered and danced, in the darkest of night,
The wax would melt, and the flame would die,
As the hours ticked by with a soft sigh.

There was an electric clock, with wires and plugs,
It buzzed and hummed, with electricity's hugs,
It told the time with a steady beat,
With hands that moved in a circular feat.

There was a sundial, with a face so round,
It used the sun's rays, to tell time all around,
As the sun moved, the shadow would fall,
And the time it told, was the most accurate of all.

There was a grandfather clock, with a tick-tock sound,
It chimed every hour, with a rich, deep round,
The cuckoo would come out, to call out the time,
And tell us the hours, with a melodic chime.

All these clocks, so different and unique,
Each one with a story, each one with a mystique,
But in the end, they all tell the time,
With analog or digital, they work just fine.

Reflections

  1. What are some of the different types of clocks in the story, and how do they work?
  2. Which clock do you think is the most interesting, and why?
  3. How do you think people kept track of time before clocks were invented?
  4. Why do you think telling time is important, and how do we use it in our daily lives?
  5. Do you think clocks will change in the future, and if so, how might they be different?
