Timmy the Critter and the Broken Winged Birdie

Once upon a time, in a land far away,
Lived a critter named Timmy, who loved to play all day,
He lived in a suitcase, so cozy and warm,
With a soft mattress, where he could rest his tiny form.

One day, Timmy felt something strange in his belly,
A rumbling sensation that made him feel quite jelly,
He realized he hadn't digested his meal from before,
And he knew he had to eat more.

But as he searched for food, he saw a victim in need,
A little birdie who couldn't fly, with a broken wing indeed,
So Timmy helped the birdie and made sure she was alright,
And together they played until the morning light.

As Timmy and the birdie were developing their friendship,
They found joy in each other, a bond they wouldn't slip,
And with every adventure, they learned something new,
Like how to be brave and kind and never feel blue.

So even though Timmy had an empty tummy,
He knew he had done something good, something yummy,
For in helping a friend, he found the greatest reward,
A friendship that would last forevermore.

Reflections

Here are a few questions that could be asked to encourage children to think about the story:

  1. Who is the main character of the story, and what kind of animal is he?
  2. What does Timmy feel in his belly, and what does he do to solve the problem?
  3. What happens when Timmy meets the broken-winged birdie, and how do they become friends?
  4. What do Timmy and the birdie learn from their adventures together?
  5. How does Timmy's decision to help the birdie rather than just satisfy his hunger demonstrate kindness and friendship?
