Read together
A pelican with a bill so long,
Swoops down to fish all day long.
A hummingbird with wings so fast,
Flits around nectar, oh so vast.
The huia, once so grand and rare,
Is now extinct, we must take care.
The crossbill, with its beak so strong,
Cracks open nuts all day long.
A hornbill with a beak so grand,
Flies through the sky, across the land.
These birds are special, all their own,
With features that make them well known.
So let's appreciate each bird we see,
And protect them all, you and me.
For they bring beauty to our world,
And make our hearts and souls unfurled.
Talk about it
Reflection
- Can you name some special features of the different birds mentioned in the poem?
- Why is it important to protect birds like the huia, which is now extinct?
- How can we appreciate and protect birds in our everyday lives?
