Winter Adaptations of Mammals: Migrating, Hibernating, and Echolocating".

In wintertime, when the air is cold,
Some creatures are not so bold,
They choose to hibernate, you see,
In caves and burrows, cozy and free.

The megabat, with wings so wide,
Will often choose to migrate and glide,
To warmer lands with lots of fruit,
Where it can eat and play and hoot.

But the microbat, so small and light,
Will stay behind and sleep all night,
Using echolocation, it will find,
Its way around, even when blind.

These creatures are all mammals, true,
And they each have their own point of view,
But whether they fly, sleep or roam,
They all have a place in our home.

  2. What is the difference between how megabats and microbats adapt to winter?
  3. How do microbats navigate in the dark?
  4. What do you think the author means when they say that these creatures have a place in our home?
