In a place where the rivers flow,
There's a land that we all know,
It's a floodplain where water stays,
And where the ecosystem plays.

Each year, the rain will pour and pour,
And the river's capacity will soar,
But the land can take it all in stride,
And the water is absorbed inside.

Sometimes a hurricane will come,
And cause the water to become,
A force that we must all respect,
And a floodplain we must protect.

The effect can be quite severe,
If the dike is not quite near,
But with preparation and care,
We can keep our land from despair.

So let's all work together now,
To keep our annual floods in check,
And preserve this ecosystem proud,
For generations yet to trek.
