The Lesson of the Greek Tragedy and Comedy

In ancient Greece, a land so old,
A tragedy was often told.
A play upon an octagon,
Where heroes fell and love begone.

But from the darkness came a light,
A comedy to make things right.
The audience laughed and cheered with glee,
As actors played with energy.

In Athens, a city filled with pride,
The landmarks stood tall, side by side.
The propotrion, a building grand,
A symbol of the city's land.

And so we learn from Greeks of old,
A lesson that we can behold.
Perspective is the key, you see,
To find the joy in tragedy.

Reflections

Here are a few questions to ask kids to think about the story:

  1. What is the difference between a tragedy and a comedy in ancient Greek theater?
  2. How does perspective play a role in understanding the stories told in these plays?
  3. What is a landmark, and why are they important to remember?
  4. What lessons can we learn from the stories of the past, and how can we apply them to our lives today?
