Read together
In the ground below our feet,
There's something that's really neat,
Fossil fuel is what it's called,
And it's millions of years old.
When we burn it for our power,
We must be careful every hour,
Because the chemicals that it emits,
Can be harmful bit by bit.
They rise up to the atmosphere,
And mix with the molecules there,
Changing the way that things are made,
And making some things hard to trade.
The constant cycle of precipitation,
Is also affected by this situation,
As rain and snow can be altered,
And the weather can be faltered.
So let's be mindful of the fossil fuel we use,
And the chemical reactions that ensue,
Because we want to protect the earth,
For all the children who come after our birth.
Talk about it
Reflection
- What is fossil fuel and why do we need to be careful when we burn it for power?
- How can the chemicals emitted from burning fossil fuels affect the atmosphere and weather patterns?
- Why is it important to be mindful of the fossil fuel we use and the impact it has on the earth, particularly for future generations?
