Courageous Colonists: Standing Up for Freedom

Let me tell you a story, my little friends,
Of a time when the world was making amends,
A time when people were fighting for their rights,
And standing up to all of the mights.

It all started with a protest one day,
When the colonists had something to say,
They wanted to establish their own rules,
And not be treated like powerless fools.

The British didn't like this at all,
So they sent militias to answer the call,
But the colonists stood strong and tall,
And wouldn't let themselves be pushed against the wall.

They sent a delegate to make their plea,
And to ask for help from across the sea,
An ally to fight for their land and freedom,
And to help them expand their kingdom.

But the British didn't want to lose control,
So they piled up debt and took their toll,
They banished the colonists, and made them leave,
But they never gave up, they still believed.

And so they fought, and won in the end,
Their rights and freedom they did defend,
They showed the world that they were brave,
And that they deserved to be treated as a wave.

So my dear young friends, remember this well,
When you stand up for what's right, you always excel,
And never let anyone push you around,
For your voice and your choices, always have a sound.

  1. Why did the colonists want to establish their own rules?
  2. How did the British react to the colonists' protest?
  3. What did the colonists do to stand up for their rights and freedom?
  4. Why did the colonists seek an ally to help them in their fight?
  5. What lessons can we learn from the colonists' struggle for independence?
