The Brave Souls of Justice: Standing Up for What's Right

There was a time, in history past,
When people struggled, they were harassed,
Their rights were not upheld, you see,
But brave souls stood up, fought for liberty.

Civil disobedience was their call,
Protesting injustice for one and all,
On picket lines they took a stand,
To raise their voice and take command.

Nonviolence was their chosen path,
To right the wrongs, to quell the wrath,
Boycotts were their weapon of choice,
Against oppression, they raised their voice.

In the Great Depression, times were tough,
Migrant farm workers, lives were rough,
Meager wages, drudgery in the field,
Their plight was a sad reality revealed.

But labor unions rose from the ground,
Grass-roots movements, they did astound,
Fast they did, to bring change about,
And their efforts did not go without.

So let us remember the lessons they taught,
The battles they fought, the wars they fought,
And let us honor their legacy,
By fighting for justice and equality.

Reflections

  1. What is civil disobedience, and how can it be used to promote change?
  2. What are some of the challenges faced by migrant farm workers during the Great Depression, and how did labor unions and grassroots movements help to address these challenges?
  3. What is the importance of nonviolence in promoting social change, and how can it be used to prevent harm while still making a strong statement?
  4. How can we continue to honor the legacy of those who fought for justice and equality in the past, and what can we do to continue their work today?
  5. What are some examples of issues in our world today that require people to stand up for what is right, and how can we use the lessons of history to guide our actions?
