The Tramp and the Train Fare

Once upon a time, there was a conductor on a train. His job was to make sure everyone had paid their fare and had the correct change. One day, a passenger got on the train and gave the conductor a note instead of the correct fare. The conductor explained that he couldn't accept a note and the passenger would need to get off the train and find some change.

The passenger looked in their pockets but found that they had none. Neither did they have any change in their wallet. The passenger was worried because they didn't want to get off the train and be stuck in the middle of nowhere.

Just then, a tramp got on the train. The tramp didn't have any fare either but the conductor let them ride anyway. The passenger was surprised and asked the conductor why he let the tramp ride for free. The conductor replied, "The tramp is going to the next stop, where they'll get off and find some food. You, on the other hand, are going much further and need to pay the fare."

The passenger realized that the conductor was right and quickly got off the train to find some change. They were able to find enough change to pay their fare and got back on the train. From then on, the passenger always made sure to carry the correct fare and change, except for those rare times when they forget.
