The Tennis Ball that Needed a Pep Talk

Once upon a time, there was a group of ten friends who loved to play tennis. They would spend hours every day practicing their swings and perfecting their serves. But one day, they heard about a terrible test that would determine who was the best tennis player of all.

The friends were all very nervous, because they knew that the test would be much harder than any game of tennis they had ever played. But they were determined to do their best and show everyone just how good they were.

On the day of the test, the friends gathered on the court, ready to do their best. But as soon as they started playing, they realized that something was very wrong. The ball was bouncing in strange ways, and no matter what they did, they just couldn't seem to hit it over the net.

After a few minutes of this strange game, one of the friends had an idea. "I think we need to tell the tennis ball what's going on," she said. "Maybe it's just feeling a little bit down, and needs a pick-me-up."

So, the friends gathered around the tennis ball and began to talk to it. They told it about how much they loved playing tennis and how important this test was to them. And do you know what? It worked! The ball suddenly started bouncing normally, and the friends were able to play their best game yet.

In the end, they all did much better than they ever thought they could, and they learned a valuable lesson: sometimes, all you need to do is give a little bit of encouragement to get the best out of something. And they all lived happily ever after, playing tennis together and never forgetting the lesson they learned that day.

Reflections

  1. Why were the friends nervous about the tennis test?
  2. What did they do to make the tennis ball start bouncing normally again?
  3. What lesson did the friends learn from this experience?
  4. Can you think of a time when you needed encouragement to do your best?
  5. Why do you think it's important to encourage others?
  6. Do you think it's okay to talk to inanimate objects like the friends did in the story? Why or why not?
