The King's Quest for Temporary Immortality

Once upon a time, there was a king who wanted to achieve immortality. He searched for a solution everywhere but found nothing that would work permanently. One day, a wise man told him about a magical pyre that granted temporary immortality. The king was overjoyed and set off to find the pyre.

When he reached it, he jumped into the fire and emerged feeling stronger and more powerful than ever before. But as the wise man warned, the immortality was only temporary and the king would have to return to the pyre every few years to renew his strength.

The king built a great pillar to commemorate his discovery and placed the pyre at its base. Every few years, he would return to the pyre and jump into the flames, always emerging refreshed and full of life.

Years passed and the king's subjects grew tired of his constant trips to the pyre. They decided to play a trick on him and swapped the real pyre with a fake one made of ice.

The next time the king returned to the pyre, he jumped into the ice and began to freeze solid. The king's subjects burst out laughing as he realized the joke that had been played on him.

From that day on, the king learned to appreciate the simple things in life and never took his temporary immortality for granted. And the pillar he built still stands tall, reminding all who pass by of the silly king and his quest for eternal life.
