He saw that it was hanging from a scaffold, which was a temporary structure used for support during construction. Saddle was curious and decided to climb up to see what was on top. As he reached the top, he noticed a scab on his leg and realized he had fallen on a sharp rock earlier. Saddle quickly licked the scab and made it all better.
