Read together
Once there was an insect named Inchy who lived in a meadow with other insects. Inchy had long antennae which helped him to sense his surroundings. One day, he saw a predator approaching so he quickly flew away to a nearby bush.
Inchy was an invertebrate, which means he didn't have a backbone like other animals. He went through different stages in his life cycle starting as a larva, then forming a pupa, and finally becoming an adult insect. This process is called metamorphosis.
During the winter, Inchy and many other insects migrated to a warmer place where they could survive. They traveled together in large groups to reach their destination.
Inchy lived a happy life, constantly growing and changing through metamorphosis. He was always on the move, using his antennae to find food and avoid predators.
The end.

- What is metamorphosis?
- How does Inchy use his antennae?
- Why did Inchy and other insects migrate?
- What is the difference between an insect and an invertebrate?
- Can you think of any other animals that go through metamorphosis?
