Map of Water Places

Two hikers name water places on a map — ocean, pond, pool, port — and choose a safe oasis stop.

Hik: The river mouth meets the ocean here. Avoid the narrows after rain.

Jo: There is a pond by the trees and a pool at the hotel.

Hik: The port is busy. Better rest at the oasis inland.

Jo: Is that lake a playa when it dries?

Hik: Sometimes. Mark the moat on the old castle sketch too — for the quiz.

Jo: Ocean, pond, pool, port, oasis, mouth, narrows — our water list is full.

Hik: Neck of the valley next. Then we turn back before dark.

Jo: Deal. Water places first, dry path home second. They checked the meaning once more, spoke the key words aloud, and ended with a calm line that made the whole scene easy to remember the next day.
