Five Things at Home

A counting walk through a house — one hat, two hands, three ducks on a shelf — ends with a favorite doll by the door.

Read together

"Count with me," said the teacher voice on the page. One hat on the hook. Two
hands waving in the mirror. Three toy ducks in a line. Four soft pillows. Five
crayons ready for drawing.

Hair brushed. House quiet. A horse poster smiled from the wall. A doll sat by the
door as if waiting for the walk to school. Outside, morning light touched the
steps. Inside, the count felt like a game that also got you ready.

Numbers felt friendly when they lived in real rooms — hat, hands, hair, house,
horse, doll, duck — and a calm count from one to five to begin the day. Tomorrow
they would count again, and maybe add six for a lucky pebble in a pocket.

What did they count from one to five in the house?
