The cab waited at the curb. The bag was heavy. It would not slide into the boot.
People behind the traveler shifted from foot to foot in the rain.
"Twist it this way," said the warden, pointing. "Then spin the wheels of the
trolley so they face straight. Do it properly, or the bag will jam again."
The traveler tried again. A soft gasp, then a proper click as the bag settled.
The sink of weight left their arms. Rain began to polish the street to a shine.
The warden checked the latch once more before nodding.
"Machine or muscle?" the driver asked with a smile. "Today, careful hands won."
The cab rolled forward on a quiet engine. The warden waved. The heavy problem
felt light at last, and the traveler finally sat back with a long breath.
