Adventures in the Garden Gate

Once upon a time, in a garden so green,
There was a little gate, the prettiest you've seen.
It led to a meadow, where the grass grew tall,
And in the distance, you could hear a goose's call.

One day, a little goat came by to play,
But it was a bit chilly, and it wasn't a day for hay.
So, the goat put on some gloves, and that did the trick,
And together they played and ran, oh so quick!

They ran through the meadow, so free and so wild,
The goose honked and flapped, like a happy child.
And when it was time to go, the goat said with a smile,
"Thank you for playing, it's been such a while."

And so they went back, through the gate in the wall,
With memories to cherish, both big and small.
And the little goat knew, as he walked away,
That he'd come back to the garden, another day.

Reflections

Here are a few questions to ask kids to think about the poem:

  1. Where did the little gate lead to, and what did the goat and the goose do there?
  2. Why did the goat need to wear gloves, and how did they help him play with the goose?
  3. What did the goat say to the goose when it was time to go, and why do you think he wanted to come back another day?
  4. What other animals or things do you think the goat might find in the garden, and what adventures might he have with them?
  5. How does the poem make you feel, and what is your favorite part of the story?
