The Winter Wonderland Adventure

In winter's wonderland of white,
Where snowflakes dance and play,
There are so many things to see,
Before they melt away.

A frosty palace made of ice,
An igloo on the ground,
And hanging from the roof, you'll find
Icicles all around.

But what's that over there, you ask?
An insect buzzing by?
No, it's just a snowflake flitting,
In the air up high.

Now come, put on your ice skates,
And glide across the pond,
Amongst the frozen water lilies,
Ivy twirling in the fronds.

But when your feet start to feel numb,
And you're chilled to the bone,
Let's warm up with some ice cream treats,
Before we head back home.

And as we leave this winter world,
A final sight we'll see,
An iguana basking in the sun,
Waiting patiently for spring to come.

Reflections

Here are a few questions to ask kids to think about the poem:

  1. What are some of the icy things you can see and do in a winter wonderland?
  2. Why do you think the iguana was mentioned in the poem?
  3. Have you ever gone ice skating before? What was it like?
  4. What do you think is the tastiest flavor of ice cream to enjoy on a cold day?
  5. How do you think the winter season affects the insects and animals in the poem?
