Read together
Once upon a time in a magical land,
There were creatures and things that were oh so grand,
Let me tell you a story of a few,
And some things they like to do.
There was a little kitten with fur so soft,
Playing with a ball of yarn, never aloft,
But she dreamed of flying high like a kite,
On a windy day, soaring to new heights.
Next, there was a kangaroo, oh so tall,
With a powerful jump, he could bounce and sprawl,
And he loved to kick and play with glee,
With all his animal friends and family.
Then came a knight with armor so bright,
And a shiny sword, always ready to fight,
He searched for a key to unlock a door,
To a castle that he'd never explored before.
A koala climbed up a tree so high,
With her favorite knife, she began to pry,
A piece of sweet eucalyptus for a snack,
Her little tummy, she would soon pack.
So, you see, my dear young friends,
These creatures all have unique trends,
With a key, kitten, kangaroo, kite, knight,
Koala, kick, and knife in sight,
They explore, play, and have fun,
In their magical world, under the sun.
Talk about it
Reflection
- Which animal in the poem do you think you would like to play with the most?
- What do you think the knight was trying to find behind the locked door in the castle?
- If you could have a kite of any shape or color, what would it look like?
- How do you think the koala uses her knife to get to the eucalyptus leaves?
- Can you think of other animals or things that could be added to the story to make it even more magical?
