The Little Gardeners: Planting and Playing in the Sandbox

In the sandbox we will play,
With our spades we'll dig all day.
Planting seeds both big and small,
To grow a garden, oh so tall.

With our yo-yos we'll take a break,
Hide and seek, the game we'll make.
Then back to work, we'll feed our plants,
Watering them with our little hands.

A sunflower seed we'll gently sow,
And watch it sprout and grow and grow.
Taller than us it will stand,
A sight so beautiful and grand.

So let's keep seeding, digging, and playing,
With each other, laughing and swaying.
And when the garden is in full bloom,
We'll know it was all worth the room.

Reflections

  1. What do the kids do in the sandbox?
  2. How do the kids plant the seeds and take care of the garden?
  3. What other games do the kids play besides planting?
  4. How does the sunflower plant grow, and how do the kids feel about it?
  5. What is your favorite part of the poem, and why?
