Fresh and Pure: Nate's Farm-to-Table Feast

There once was a child named Nate
Who wanted a yummy plate
He liked his food fresh and pure
And honey that came from the moor

He wanted butter on his bread
And eggs that were perfectly red
He liked his food to taste just right
And fill him up with all its might

So Nate went out into the farm
And asked for food that wouldn't harm
He found some honey from the bees
And butter made from creamy whey

He cracked an egg into a pan
And cooked it up as fast as he can
He sat down to eat his feast
And enjoyed his meal like a beast

Nate's meal was fresh and pure
And he enjoyed it for sure
He learned that food from the land
Tastes the best, so eat it if you can!

Reflections

Here are a few questions to ask kids to think about the poem:

  1. What did Nate want for his meal, and where did he go to find it?
  2. What did Nate learn about the taste of fresh, pure food from the land?
  3. Have you ever eaten honey, butter, or eggs from a farm? What did they taste like?
  4. How do you think the animals on the farm might feel about providing food for us?
  5. What other foods do you like to eat that come directly from the land?

Can't find what you want?
