An Adventure on the Train

Once upon a train ride bright,
A conductor came into sight,
He checked each passenger's fare,
And handed out a note with care.

Some were getting off real soon,
Others had a longer boon,
Some had none to change or pay,
But all were happy on their way.

A tramp got on, with bags in tow,
And searched for a seat to show,
The conductor smiled and waved him in,
For neither fare nor change he'd bring.

The train chugged on, through fields and towns,
Past rivers, mountains, and green mounds,
And though each passenger was different and new,
They all enjoyed the ride they knew.

So if you take a train one day,
And go on a journey far away,
Remember that a conductor will be there,
To guide you on, without a care.

Reflections

  1. What is a conductor and what is their job on a train?
  2. How are the passengers on the train different from one another?
  3. Why do you think the conductor let the tramp on the train without payment?
  4. What do you think the passengers might see outside the train window on their journey?
  5. Have you ever been on a train ride before? If so, how was it similar or different to the train ride in the poem?
