The Jobs That Help Us All

Once upon a time in a land far away
There were folks with jobs to do every day
They worked hard and they worked with pride
To help others and make things right.

There was a student eager to learn,
Their mind a sponge that couldn't wait to turn
The pages of books and fill their brain
With knowledge and skills they could attain.

There was a waiter with a big smile,
Serving food with style and guile
Making sure everyone was well fed
And happy with their meal, he said.

There was a secretary with papers in piles,
Answering calls and wearing many styles
She kept things organized and on track
So the office could run without any slack.

There was a patient who needed care,
A doctor came to cure and repair
With medicines and a gentle touch
The patient recovered and thanked them much.

There was a teacher with a heart of gold,
Helping young minds to unfold
With lessons and wisdom to impart,
And a passion to ignite their spark.

And finally, a lawyer to defend,
Ensuring that justice was meted till the end
Fighting for the rights of all who need,
Ensuring that their voices can be freed.

So children, work hard and be proud,
Choose a job that will make you feel endowed
To help others and make a change,
In the world, it's not so strange!

Reflections

Here are a few questions to ask kids to think about the poem:

  1. What are some of the different jobs mentioned in the poem?
  2. What do each of these jobs involve, and how do they help other people?
  3. What job do you think you might like to have one day, and why?
  4. How do you think these different jobs work together to make the world a better place?
  5. What did you learn from the poem, and what message do you think it is trying to convey?
