The Magical Forest Adventure

Come along and listen to my rhyme,
I'll use some words that you hear all the time,
We'll start with "common," which means it's known,
By lots of people, all on their own.

Now "condition" might sound quite strange,
But it's just a word to describe a range,
Of things that are good, or maybe not,
It all depends on what you've got.

If you want to learn how to cook,
It's important to read a recipe book,
But if you prefer to play on your computer,
That's fine too, and there's no need to be a commuter.

When we compare things side by side,
We look for differences, and things we can't hide,
It's a great way to learn, and to see,
What makes things unique, just like you and me.

Being comfortable is a great feeling,
Like being wrapped up in a warm cozy ceiling,
But it's important to be in control too,
To do what's right, and what we should do.

When a task is complete, we can feel proud,
We've worked hard, and said it out loud,
But we don't stop there, we continue on,
Learning and growing, until we've gone beyond.

So remember these words, and what they mean,
And you'll be well on your way to achieve your dream,
And when you're feeling unsure or in doubt,
Just keep going, and you'll figure it out.

Reflections

Here are a few questions to ask kids to think about the poem:

  1. What does the word "common" mean, and can you think of some things that are common?
  2. Why is it important to be in control, and what are some ways you can be in control?
  3. What are some things you can learn by comparing things side by side?
  4. Why is it important to keep going and continue learning and growing?
  5. What is your favorite line or phrase from the poem, and why do you like it?
