The Magic Pencil

In the world of shapes, there's lots to explore,
With lines and angles, we can discover more.
Let's start with concentric, a fancy word indeed,
It means that two circles share the same center seed.

Now, let's look at concave, a shape that goes in,
Like a bowl or a cave, with a curved inner skin.
Collinear means that points all line up straight,
Like a row of ants marching, in a neat and tidy gait.

An acute angle is one that's less than ninety degrees,
It's pointy and sharp, like the tip of a cheese.
A composite shape is made of many pieces small,
Put together like a puzzle, it can be big or small.

When coincident shapes meet, they overlap just right,
Like two puzzle pieces that fit together tight.
Congruent shapes are identical in size and shape,
Like two cookies made from the same dough and bake.

Alternate angles are found in pairs,
They're across from each other, like a matching pair of chairs.
Adjacent shapes are next to each other, side by side,
Like two best friends, who always stick together, no need to hide.

The central shape is located right in the middle,
Like a shiny red apple, that's the biggest and the most fiddle.
So, now you know some words to describe your shapes,
Use them well, and your geometry skills will start to take shape!

Reflections

  1. What did the young girl discover in the attic, and how did it change her life?
  2. How did the girl feel when her drawings started coming to life, and what did she do with her new power?
  3. What are some of the things that went wrong when the girl's drawings came to life, and how did she learn to use the magic pencil more responsibly?
  4. If you had a magic pencil, what would you draw, and why?
  5. What would you do if your drawings started coming to life, and things got out of control?
