The Power of Words

Come close and listen here, my dears,
I have a story to share, don't you fear.
It's about words we use every day,
To communicate in our own special way.

We send a text, a message so quick,
It's a way to stay connected, do the trick.
We can talk and express how we feel,
Sharing our thoughts, it's a big deal.

Sometimes we make a remark, off the cuff,
It can be kind or it can be tough.
But we should always think before we speak,
To be polite and avoid a verbal leak.

When we whisper, we keep it low,
A secret to share with one we know.
And when we really want to yak,
We can chat away and never look back.

If we stammer, we take our time,
It's okay, we'll still make it rhyme.
Words are powerful, that's for sure,
They can uplift, inspire, and more.

So use your words with kindness and care,
And always be willing to share.
Communication is key, you'll see,
It can connect us, just like you and me.

Reflections

Here are a few questions to ask kids to think about the story:

  1. What are some different ways we can communicate with others?
  2. Why is it important to think before we speak or make a remark?
  3. How can words be powerful and make a difference in someone's day?
  4. Can you think of a time when you used your words to express yourself or to make someone feel better?
  5. How can we be kind and use our words to uplift and inspire others?
