Counting Sheep
One, two, three, let's start to count,
Sheep in the meadow, all around.
Four, five, six, there are so many,
Jumping and playing, feeling quite zany.
Seven little sheep, all in a row,
Watching the others, they're ready to go.
One sheep jumps over, then two, then three,
The others all follow, as happy as can be.
Four little sheep now, feeling quite tired,
They start to lay down, as their friends are inspired.
Five and six, they're still full of glee,
They leap and they frolic, so full of energy.
The sun starts to set, and the sheep are all done,
Counting them was so much fun.
As they start to sleep, one by one,
We say goodnight to each and every one.
Talk about it
Reflection
Here are a few questions to ask kids to think about the story:
- What did the sheep do in the meadow?
- How many sheep were there in total?
- Did all the sheep jump over the fence?
- How did the sheep feel at the end of the story?
- Why do you think counting sheep is a common way to help people fall asleep?
