Friends of Different Kinds

In a land full of wonder and delight
There lived a group of friends so bright
A dog, an elephant, a pig, and a duck
All living together, what good luck!

Along came a woman and a man
With a boy and girl, hand in hand
They looked at the animals, so diverse
And all agreed they could make a verse

The dog wagged its tail, full of glee
The elephant trumpeted, loud and free
The pig oinked and snorted, so content
And the duck quacked, its message sent

The woman smiled and the man laughed
The boy clapped and the girl gasped
At the sight of these creatures in their midst
Living together, a true friendship blissed

And so, they joined in and played
Together in the fields, unafraid
Of their differences, they found joy
In being friends, what a great ploy!

And so, my little ones, take note
From these friends, who in unison float
That no matter how different we seem
In our hearts, we're all part of the same team.

Reflections

  1. Who were the main characters in the story, and what animals did they bring with them?
  2. How did the woman, man, boy, and girl feel when they met the animals for the first time, and why?
  3. What did the animals do to show that they were happy to meet the new friends?
  4. What did the group of friends do together, and how did they have fun?
  5. Why is it important to appreciate and respect each other's differences, even if we may not look or act the same?
