Tiny Town Bureau · make a place that works

Tiny Town Bureau

Design a town small enough to draw, but thoughtful enough for everyone to use.

Ages 6–12 · together or alone 15–20 minutes

Tiny Town is small enough to draw and big enough to care about. Give every place a reason, every route a measurement, and every neighbour one useful rule.

Start here

Choose a town brief

Pick one constraint, build around it, and let the town grow from the reason behind the choice.

Coordinate brief

Market Square

Put the square at (2, 3), then add one nearby place that gives neighbours a reason to meet.

Shape brief

The Green Corridor

Use three shapes to make a park: one for sitting, one for moving, and one that can be spotted from far away.

Measurement brief

The Short Bridge

Connect the library to the playground with the shortest route that still leaves room for a safe turn.

People brief

The Welcome Rule

Write one rule that helps people share the town without making every choice for them.

Tiny Town uses original Yahaaa prompts. There is no external data or image harvest in this pack.

    Grid

    Plot the town

Place the square, park, library, and bridge on a grid. A town starts to feel real when every place has a reason to be where it is.

If the market square is at (2, 3), where will people go next?

    Place the points
  2. 2

    Shape

    Design a landmark

Use circles, rectangles, triangles, and lines to make a landmark people can recognize from across town.

Which shape tells visitors where they are before anyone reads a sign?

    Sort the shapes
  3. 3

    Measure

    Make the route fit

Measure a walking route between two places. Make room for a shortcut, a turn, and one pause.

What should be shorter: the path to the park or the path to the fire station? Why?

    Measure the town

    Charter

    Set the town rule

Draw the whole town and write one sentence that helps people share space, time, or attention.

What rule would make a busy square feel welcoming rather than bossy?
