Why Are Bubbles Always Round?
A sphere is the shape with the least surface for a given volume, so bubbles fall into it.

Water pulls itself together.
Water molecules attract each other, so the surface behaves like a stretched elastic skin, always trying to shrink.

A bubble is air trapped in a thin film.
Two soapy surfaces with a layer of water between them wrap around a pocket of air. The air cannot escape and the film wants to shrink.

Shrinking is a competition it cannot win.
The film pulls inward but the trapped air resists compression. It settles at the shape with the smallest possible surface for that volume.

That shape is a sphere, always.
For any given volume, a sphere has less surface than any other shape. Nothing chooses it — it is simply where the shrinking stops.

Squashed together they go flat-sided.
In foam, bubbles press against each other and the shared walls flatten. Free bubbles are round; crowded ones are not.
Blow a bubble with a square wand and it still comes out round. The wand shapes nothing.
The short version
Bubbles are round because the film shrinks to the smallest surface possible, and that shape is a sphere.

Bend a wire into a square or star and dip it. The bubble that floats off is still perfectly round.
